Time to grab your favorite stuffed animal and a blanket; we’re here to talk about scary movies! Okay, I understand; there are mixed feelings about scary movies, but trust me! You just have to find the right ones... right? Seriously, get ready to hide because I’m actually kind of scared. Personally, I LOVE scary movies. If you want to hang out, what scary movie are we going to watch?
Firstly, the most obvious scary movies are Scream and Halloween. In my opinion, Scream is mid-level scary, yet it’s my FAVORITE franchise. This movie follows a high school girl who just lost her mother to murder. When suddenly, her friends start getting killed, a masked killer is going around the city and striking repeatedly. This leads to her suspecting everyone, even the ones she trusts the most. One review about this movie says. “A masterclass in tone and tension, with the incredible cast adding an air of authenticity that actually makes you care about their fate. Slashers, and horror in general, don't get any better.” I’m going to take away from this review that this movie is ICONIC…because I’ve never seen it. Okay, yes, I know I’m lame. Just kidding, but seriously, I will watch it!
Now, onto the SCARIEST movies! A movie that immediately comes to my mind is ‘The Babadook’. If you haven’t seen this movie, don’t. Watch at your own risk. I swear on my pinky toe, this movie is the SCARIEST movie I’ve ever seen. This movie starts with a single mother and her six-year-old son who is grieving the loss of her husband and his father. Suddenly, a strange book appears on the sons’ shelf during the time for a story. Little did the mother know, the entity inside the book would come to haunt her depression and grief. Before I even started the movie, I had goosebumps. Another SUPER scary movie is “Talk to Me”. O. M. G. Even thinking about this movie gives me the heebie-jeebies. A little explanation to this movie is this group of teenagers who find an embalmed hand with random marks on it…odd, right? They find out that if you hold this hand and say the phrase “Talk to me, I let you in.” which leads the spirit inside the hand into their soul temporarily. The thing is that if you hold the hand for longer than 90 seconds, the spirit REFUSES to leave leading to a possession over the person holding the hand.
Okay, a movie that I’ve heard is TERRIFYING is “Terrifier”. Get it? Terrifier? Terrifying? I’ve seen this movie whilst eating Buldalk noodles…don’t recommend it. A praising review this movie got was that the movie highlighted the grimy and VERY realistic special effects on such a tiny budget. Yes, this is a great movie itself, but be prepared if you end up watching it. A negative review this movie got was that it felt as if it almost had no story and thin writing. I understand where this comes from; there is just so much gore and suspense to the point it feels as if that’s the only thing happening in the movie.
ALRIGHT. Enough about skin-prickling movies, let’s talk medium-scare. This may be full of mixed opinions, but I believe “A Quiet Place” is not that scary. I know being chased by mysterious creatures and having to stay silent is chilling to even think about, but I wouldn’t say it’s ‘hiding under the blanket’ scary. The plot is definitely captivating, though. Another medium-scary movie is “Coraline”. Some may say this movie isn’t scary at ALL, but I disagree. It may not be a ‘horror movie’ type of scary, but it is suspenseful. Think about it: Coraline goes into a whole ‘nother dimension and has a totally different family, then they end up wanting her to sew buttons as her eyes! Is that not chilling?!
Okay, I’m getting a little scared just thinking about the first mentioned movies. If you want more scary movie suggestions, I recommend looking up “Top scariest horror movies”. Trust me, you better hang on to your blankets. Oh! One last thing…BOO! Did that scare you? Anybody…? Okay, I’ll wrap it up. Scare you next time, Pandas!
