Time to unfreeze and get back into learning whilst your wrist hurts from writing notes. Games were played, laughter was heard, joints were working, and voices were lost from this past Icebreaker dance at the Naz Youth Center last Friday, August 21st. The first official dance of this 2026-2027 school year was filled with people sweating through their clothes with the way they were breaking it down to the songs playing. Definitely needed to stay outside from the sweat smell and humidity inside the dance room.
On the topic of the dance, free extra cookies and pizza slices were given out towards the end! I’m sure they loved ending up in people's stomachs. My stomach was raging from the fact I had to pay a dollar extra instead of free (I actually loved the cookie, even if I used my one dollar). Money is money! (I could’ve used my single dollar later on! But who am I kidding? What costs one dollar in this economy?)
Adding along to the Icebreaker dance, we’ve also had the Icebreaker Rally! Honorable mention to the UPHS dance team for their iconic performance at the start. If I flipped like that, my back would instantly snap. With games included, sophomores are in the lead with the most points collected, Seniors coming right behind with (number of points)! Actually, quite a tie…better step it up, Seniors! Sophomores Josiah Burnitzki and Jasper Young were killing it during Plunge Skating, a game played with toilet plungers and skateboards. The point of this game was to push off the toilet plungers whilst lying on your stomach. Yup, toilet plungers. The second shoutout goes to Mason Hoggs’ enthusiasm during Mattress Sliding, a game where you must run and land onto the mattress to let it slide across to the finish line. He had such a blast to the point he had to run into the arms of his teammate. My last congratulations go to the freshman with their first OFFICIAL high school rally! They might’ve had rallies during middle school, but the upperclassmen definitely made this one memorable.
In conclusion, everyone definitely made a break at the dance. Perhaps we’ll have the next Icebreaker dance in a hockey rink…get it? Just an idea! Look forward to future dances and rallies, you will have an insane amount of fun. Until the next dance!
